Back to School Readiness Support

Once a year we assist underserved children with school uniforms and backpacks. Our Back-to-School Giveaway, is designed to reduce financial barriers and help students start the school year confident and prepared.

Children receive free school uniforms, backpacks, and essential supplies.

Our overall goal is not only to meet material needs but also to promote equity, boost students’ self-esteem, and strengthen community connections, ensuring children begin the school year ready to learn and succeed.

Honoring Police Officers

We host a Law Enforcement Recognition and Appreciation Luncheon, designed to acknowledge exemplary service, bravery, and commitment to the community.

Our event is attended by police leadership,  fellow officers, family members, and community partners. The ceremony highlights officers who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism, heroism, leadership, or long-term service.

The event serves to strengthen trust between law enforcement and the community, uplift officer morale, and publicly express gratitude for the sacrifices officers and their families make in service to public safety.

Scholarship Awards

Kiwanis of Biscayne Bay Scholarships:  Students have received major tuition-covering scholarships (e.g., a ~$30,000 award covering full university tuition) through partnerships with community organizations like Kiwanis of Biscayne Bay. These are competitive and involve mentorship and selection throughout junior/senior year.

Holiday Gifting – United Community Options of Miami

Our Christmas event is where gifts are given to students at United Community Options of South Florida with special needs. It is a Holiday Celebration of Joy and Inclusion; designed to honor each child’s individuality and ensure they feel valued during the holiday season.

Students with special needs are invited to enjoy a sensory-friendly holiday celebration, thoughtfully planned to accommodate diverse abilities and comfort levels. It includes Personalized gift distribution, with presents tailored to students’ interests, developmental needs, or sensory preferences and support from teachers, therapists, and volunteers familiar with the students’ needs.

The event’s purpose is to spread joy, promote inclusion, and celebrate the strengths of special needs students, ensuring every child experiences the magic and generosity of the Christmas season in a safe, supportive environment.

Thanksgiving Family Market

At our Thanksgiving event,  food is given to parents of underserved students is typically a Thanksgiving Food Distribution and Family Appreciation Event. It is created to support families during the holiday season and ensure every household can enjoy a traditional meal.

Parents and guardians of underserved students are invited to receive free Thanksgiving meal packages, which often include items such as turkey or ham, stuffing, canned vegetables, rice or potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, and dessert essentials.

The event is welcoming and respectful, with:

  • Pre-packed grocery boxes or fresh food distributions
  • Volunteers assisting families with carrying items
  • Warm greetings and expressions of gratitude for parents’ role in supporting their children’s education

The overall purpose is to alleviate food insecurity, honor parents, and promote a sense of dignity, care, and community, ensuring families can celebrate Thanksgiving with nourishment and peace of mind.

Zoo Miami Annual Fieldtrip

On our Zoo field trip event we take special needs members of United Community Options of South Florida to the zoo. Zoo Day, is created to provide an enriching, enjoyable, and accessible experience in a supportive environment.

Special needs members are accompanied by caregivers, staff, and trained volunteers who provide individualized support throughout the day. Transportation is often arranged to ensure safe and accessible travel.

Our event includes guided zoo tours tailored to different ability levels and sensory needs, hands-on learning opportunities such as animal encounters or educational demonstrations, access to quiet rest areas, sensory-friendly spaces, and wheelchair-accessible paths and lunch provided in a comfortable group setting.

Our goal is to create memorable experiences, encourage curiosity about animals and nature, and ensure special needs members feel welcomed, supported, and fully included in community activities.

Annual Everglades Day Trip

Our Everglades event in partnership with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers to take underserved children to the Everglades is a Community Environmental Education and Cultural Enrichment Field Trip, designed to expand students’ horizons through nature, learning, and global service.

The event is organized collaboratively with the school district and the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs), who bring a unique perspective on environmental stewardship, cultural awareness, and service. Underserved children are transported to the Everglades for a full-day, guided experience focused on exploration and education.

The event includes Key components of the event includes Guided nature walks and boat or tram tours, highlighting the Everglades’ ecosystem, wildlife, and conservation efforts, interactive lessons led by park rangers and RPCVs, connecting local environmental issues to global sustainability and service experiences, hands-on activities such as wildlife observation, journaling, or environmental science demonstrations and lunch, water, and safety supplies provided to ensure student comfort and care.

Throughout the day, RPCVs share stories of their service, encouraging curiosity, leadership, and civic responsibility. Our goal is to inspire environmental awareness, foster cultural and global understanding, and provide underserved children with meaningful, first-time access to a national treasure, creating lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for nature and service.
